Not so naughty Oli put in a solid performance at Tweseldown this week, finishing just a touch outside of the prizes in 11th place and feels in a good place for this point of the season 💫
Thank you William Carey Photography for the photographs which were actually taken at Withington a few weeks back!
Also big shout out to Gatehouse Hats for getting a new hat and air jacket supplies to me mega quickly after a little tumble recently 🙈
A successful day at the office at Howick. Beautiful Belle was 3rd in the Novice and Pickle continued his great form to be 6th in his Novice section 🎉🎉
Also very exciting to see one of our homebred’s moving up in the world! Meridianway Ramzes Boy and Alex Whewall won their 100 section at Broadway. Video of them below.
Meridianway Graf’s Pride, Lecarrow Watermill and Piccolo V were all in novice sections. The first two put in solid performances to finish just outside the top 10 .
Star performance of the week had to go to Piccolo V who finished 3rd in his second ever run at this level, putting in a lovely test to score 30 and a great double clear adding just 0.4 time faults – exciting stuff with him.
Hazard Z was a superstar jumping a classy double clear in the BE100.
We headed back on the Sunday with the Ashfield family’s Dernahatten Oak (Cormac) and Milchem Sea Breeze. Super power pony Cormac pinged round the 100 for 3rd place and Breeze was super grown up in her first 100 with just one green genuine mistake cross county.
Very lucky to have such a super team of up and coming horses with lots to look forward to this season.
Thanks to all the team at Aston for a great competition.
A very successful first Open Morning for Meridian Stud! It was great to see lots of people having a look around the yard and watching the horses work. Fab time all round especially with such amazing weather.
We are also really please to offer share availability in Piccolo V and have started up a Kate Honey Eventing Club – offering the opportunity to be part of the team and follow three Team Honey horses – check out the posters below for more details or get in touch with me direct.
Huge thanks to all the team for all their hard work to get everything looking perfect!!
Exciting times with Piccolo V doing his first novice. He did a smart test for 27 and then an awesome double clear to finish 4th 🎉
Milchem Sea Breeze carried on her positive start to eventing finishing on her dressage score of 33.5 for 7th place in the 90.
6YO Hazard Z was doing his first BE100 and we were really pleased with his performance – marred only by a green moment at a skinny brush late in the course. But he showed great scope and potential. Excited for the next event with him!
Cochise, owned by Eleanor Hubbard, put in another solid performance, but had an unusual pole which just dropped him out of the top 10 in the BE100.
It wasn’t MW Congo Diva’s event this time – but that is horses, they are not machines and we will regroup with her, before heading back out.
We’ve been to 6 more events and had some great results.
Swalcliffe was a highlight with all four horses finishing in the top 10 in various sections of the BE100. It was a great day for the whole team – see them in action here: https://youtu.be/4ETB7HzImW8
We then headed up to Belton with the main man Hugo for a spin round the OI – he felt class and jumped a super double clear to finish just outside of the top 10. The weather at Belton was stunning and with the event setting, it had a great feel.
The day after we were back out with the younger horses down the road at Goring. It was the first event for our new 5YO Milchem Sea Breeze and wow she was super cool taking it all in her stride with an easy double clear. MW Congo Diva (Panda), had some young horse moments, but also glimpses of brilliance!

In an action packed weekend, I then headed off for my third outing, the last days dragging with the legendary Chippy at Rockley Manor. I have had an awesome season with the Berks & Bucks pack, doing some field mastering and whipping in (on one occasion Chippy and had a 37km day!) a great alternative to eventing throughout the off season!
We then headed to Larkhill with Piccolo V (Pickle), Lecarrow Watermill (Belle) and Cochise (Cheese) owned by Eleanor Hubbard. Cheese was the star of the day picking up a placing. Pickle found the dressage very exciting and I had a slight sat nav failure on Belle in the dressage, but both their jumping efforts were fab with great double clears.
Then came a few lows. The first one, was a huge blow when we recently had to withdraw lovely Hugo from Badminton. He has picked up a small injury which has ruled him out for this years event. We are all absolutely gutted not to be heading back, but our awesome vets and physios are confident that they will get him back up and running for the end of the season.
To top off an already challenging week, Meridianway Grafs Pride (Oli) then decided to have a totally naughty day at South of England and bronc his way out of his own dressage arena into the next one and I got my first Elimination from dressage! After he had started so well at Tweseldown too!
However, luckily all the younger horses cheered me back up at Calmsden UA this weekend just gone and we had 4/5 double clears, with a 3rd for Hazard Z in the 90cm and an 8th for the Ashfield family’s Dernahatten Oak in the 100cm. Milchem Sea Breeze put in another great performance, feeling a lot more confident as did MW Congo Diva who was a lot more settled in the dressage.
It has also been a great month to welcome new supporters to the team. First up is FMBs, who I was really pleased to make the shortlist for their sponsored rider search, which involved having to put a video together with lots of talking to camera, which was a first! Huge thank you to everyone who liked and shared my video, I was overwhelmed by your support and a big well done to the eventual winners Kimberley and Craig. Off the back of this FMBS have kindly offered me a free upgrade on their brilliant Activo-Med rug, which I can’t wait to start using.
In other sponsors news, I am delighted to be working with Premier Equine who have given me lots of sets of brilliant Carbon Tech Air Cooled eventing boots. Ginger & Jardine are a new up and coming clothing brand with a emphasis on sustainability, and have kindly sent Mum and I with some great items including roll necks which have been perfect for the unpredictable spring weather. Last but by no means least, I am really excited to have Event Equestrian Clothing on board looking after me on the riding clothing side of things.

So, overall a busy month, not one we predicted, but that is the life of an eventer – onwards and upwards.
Great to get the Eventing 2019 season underway at Tweseldown last week, surviving the wind and rain over the three days of competition!
First up was the main man Hugo in the OI. This year marks out 11th season eventing together and as always he was great. His cross-country round was spot on (video below), and really reminded me of why we train so hard throughout the winter – for moments like those with your top horse! I also had Piccolo (Pickles) in the BE100. He did a super smart test and good jumping rounds, bar one green moment coming out of the water cross country
Day 2 was the turn of Meridianway Graf’s Pride (Oli). He has been known to through a few shapes at competition – but this time, was incredibly well behaved and came out better than ever to skip easily around the novice. A really exciting start for him, see his show-jumping video here: Oli Twesel
For the final day, I had Dernahatten Oak, owned by the Chopping Family, Billy Citron, owned by Emma Davis and Cochise owned by Eleanor Hubbard all contesting the BE100. The conditions were slightly challenging by day three, but non the less all the horses put in good performances for the start of the season.
So excited to have the main man Hugo back up and running, he seems on great form. We have been out show-jumping and to Dickies for lessons and he feels better then ever.
New additions for 2019 are 6 yr old Hazard Z and 5 yr old Milchem Sea Breeze, both exciting prospects and I am looking forward to getting them out competing when they are ready.
It is also great to have two homebreds coming through, Meridianway Royal Pride (Milo) and Merdianway Pride's Princess (Flo-Jo). They are full brother and sisters out of my 3* mare Pride - keeping the grey dynasty going!
At last count we will have 10 horses in under the Meridian Stud banner along with some lovely owners horses. First stop is Tweseldown at the beginning of March with 6 horses over the three days - lets pray for no more snow!
